Sometimes a person feels sad because they have just experienced a loss. It could be they just lost a pet or they are getting a divorce or they have lost their job or someone they care about has died.
Sometimes a person feels sad because they have been reminded of something in the past that makes them sad, like looking at a picture of someone who is no longer around or hearing some music that brings them down.
Sometimes a person feels sad and they are not exactly sure why.
While there is definitely a longer term solution to bringing you up from sadness you can do things to improve how you feel right now.
This may sound simple, but a good place to start is by noting how different things in your life make you feel. Start to pay attention to how you feel in the different places that you go. Notice if you feel better or worse. Try to cut down on the amount of time you spend in places that make you feel worse and spend more time in the places that make you feel better. Sounds simple but sometimes we can get stuck in the bad places and bad feelings and you have to use some discipline to get yourself up and out of that place. It is okay to change what you do. Even if you simply get up and go outside and go for a walk.
Further, start noticing how you feel with the different people in your life. Do you feel sad around some people more than others? Try to increase the time you spend with people who bring you up and try to cut down on the time you spend with people who bring you down.
There is definitely something you can do to get rid of those feelings permanently but in the meantime you can do some simple things for yourself to feel better immediately. You can help yourself.
